Grade 1 exit devices are commonly installed on the doors of commercial and public buildings to ensure easy and rapid egress, as mandated by building and fire codes. However, their functionality is limited without electrification.
There are several reasons to electrify exit devices. Although exit devices are designed for easy egress, they can still pose challenges for those with disabilities. Adding a door operator and actuator to a motorized exit device can overcome these difficulties, allowing for fully automated operation. Additionally, electrification enables authorized users to gain access through an access control system.
Command Access offers their own unique line of electrified exit devices as well as retrofit options. Command Access’s design is unique in that it does not just retract the latch but the entire device, including the full pushpad for true electronic dogging. This is better for security because it’s easier to see that the door is in dogging mode, and it reduces mechanical wear, meaning the device lasts longer. Dogging the device also eliminates the mechanical sounds typically associated with normal egress operation.
Retrofit Options
PD27 and PD29 series
The PD27 series is engineered specifically for wide stile doors (PD28 mechanical option), offering a solution that doesn't require removing the entire door or its rods during retrofits.
The PD29 is the narrow style motorized exit device (PD30 being its mechanical version). It was designed to alleviate the unique problem glass doors present, as you can't use a rim device on double doors if you want them to be actively closed or opened. The PD29-SVR surface vertical rod is an effective solution to this problem. This model is available in rim, surface vertical rod, and concealed vertical rod configurations.
Exit Device Features
Push to Set
Our PTS (Push to Set) technology is a 5 second electronic adjustment for easy post installation adjustment.
Request to Exit Switch
Available factory installed or as a field installable kit.
No Hassle Warranty
Longer than the traditional 1 year warranty, our exit devices carry our 3-year warranty.
Long Wire Runs
Long wire runs provide installers with the convenience of placing the Command locking hardware power supply in a centralized location; i.e. the same closet as the access control panel.

Motorized Outside Trim Option

The PD27 and PD29 series motorized outside trim option enables fail-safe mode for code compliance, eliminating concerns about power rating or voltage compatibility. With support for a wide voltage range of 11 to 30 volts, these devices offer flexibility and ease of integration into existing systems.
Advanced Alarm Kit
The integrated alarm kit in the PD27 and PD29 series offers a localized relay alarm that can also tie into an access control system. It also has configurable auto-silence settings and a red LED that blinks for 7, 3, and 1-minute intervals to indicate that the unit is alarmed.
Delayed Egress Functionality
Ideal for high-security areas such as airports and memory care facilities, the delayed egress feature for the PD27 and PD29 series prevents unauthorized exits for a specified time (15-30 seconds).
In Conclusion
Made in the USA, our robust products offer versatile solutions for any project. Choose Command Access for the ultimate in security, convenience, and peace of mind in exit device electrification.
