Command Access Power Transfers

Published on Aug 27, 2024

Power transfers provide a means of delivering low voltage power from the door frame into the door itself, enabling the operation of electronic locks, strikes, and other electrified hardware. They’re designed to ensure that the wiring within the door is protected from damage caused by the constant opening and closing of the door. Without power transfer solutions, the wiring could become worn or damaged over time, leading to system failures and compromised security.

Command Access offers a robust lineup of power transfer products, including Energy Transfer Hinges and Door Loops. One of Command Access’s standout innovations is the patented Concealed Door Loop (CDL) technology. This unique design offers a concealed method of transferring power, ensuring that the wiring remains protected while maintaining the door's appearance.

Energy Transfer Hinges and Units

Energy Transfer Hinges

Energy transfer hinges have wires that run through the hinge. Unlike visible wires or door loops, the electrical components are hidden within the hinge itself, preserving the door's appearance and reducing the risk of damage or tampering.

Command Access’ Energy Transfer Hinge (ETH 3, ETH 5, Swing Clear Transfer Hinge, Energy Transfer Pivot Hinge) is the ideal way to pass low voltage power from the hinge jamb to the lockset without having any exposed wires. The wiring is sealed and concealed on the mount side so once installed, the wire is completely invisible. These hinges are commonly used with electric mortise & cylindrical locks, electric strikes (when on a pair of doors), electric exit trims, latch pullback devices, door mounted card readers and low voltage door lights.

The Energy Transfer Monitor Hinge (ETM 3 and ETM 5) like the ETH hinge is the ideal way to pass power from the hinge jamb to the lockset. There are no exposed wires, cables or switches that can be tampered with, and the hinge maintains the same appearance of a conventional nonpower transfer hinge. What distinguishes it from the ETH hinge is that it has a concealed switching magnetic or mechanical (when working with steel) monitor switch that signals the position of the door dictated by the security system preference.

Command Access can modify almost any hinge and maintains a large inventory of most major hinge brands in various sizes and finishes. These can be ordered as wired, wired with switch, or switch only.

Energy Transfer Units

The Command Access EPT is a concealed power transfer ideal for high traffic applications, matching the Von Duprin EPT prep. This unit is mortised into the edges of the door and frame and is completely concealed when door is in the closed position. It is packaged individually with fasteners for wood, steel or aluminum doors and frames, with crimp connectors supplied for a more secure and clean connection.

The Command Access V-KRM-EL is an Electric Power Transfer modification of the Sargent/Yale keyed removable mullion system(primarily used for strikes on double doors). This modification allows for safe transfer of power from the head of the door frame to the electric strike location(s). It can easily remove the mullion without damaging or disconnecting the power.

Door Loops

Door loops are small, flexible tubes that carry wires from the frame to the door, protecting them as the door moves. While they are more visible than ETHs, which can raise security concerns, they eliminate the need for additional terminations during installation, allowing you to run circuits through without disrupting connections. Additionally, door loops can accommodate wiring gauges larger than 18-gauge, offering greater flexibility compared to the limitations of a hinge.

Command Access’ door loops (DL20 and NDL18) are a low-cost method of transferring low voltage power from the door frame to the locking device, feature flexible armored conduit and a durable aluminum or duronatic finish. They’re available in multiple lengths and can be field cut to size.

While typical door loops are surface mounted and remain constantly visible, Command Access’ patented Concealed Door Loop slides into the door and/or frame completely concealing itself when the door is closed.

Molex Connectors

Molex connectors can be added to any Command Access products whether you are working with the Assa Abloy, Allegion or Dormakaba system. They are designed for "plug and play" use, meaning they can be easily connected and disconnected without needing special tools or extensive technical knowledge to simplify installations in the field.
